| Hardrider | 19-03-2010 00:45 | | Slams: 665 | Look like Tetra is working on the Family stuff :-P Kewl ! |
| | Slams: 883 | Frankly I'd be pretty pissed off if my remakes got replaced by better or more accurate or whatever ones. Even another version wouldn't exactly make me feel good. If someone finds a noteworthy bug they can tell the coders and I'm sure they'll fix it. A remake will never be 100% of the original (upscaling, different music playback etc.) and IMHO it doesn't have to be. Remakes (for me) are here to bring back memories and memories are never 100% either. The 90 percent+ accurate rule is enough I'd say. Most of the remakes are way more accurate than that anyway. Sometimes stuff even runs different in an emulator than on the real hardware and I'm definitely not gonna test everything on my ST, just to make sure. Hehe
Ok, that's just my two cents about this.
...and @ hardrider: I had a good laugh at Thanks for that. |
| Hardrider | 18-03-2010 14:01 | | Slams: 665 | @Shockwave: I agree that we can have a closer version of some remakes to reach the perfect cloning :-P
However, I would not simply "replace" with the new one, but more have the 2 different versions available.
Why ? Simply for respect of remakers. Even if there is "bug" or non-windowed mode, the guy spent time to make it and we should never forget that !
Also, what will be the limits to allow replacement of an existing cractro with a newest ?
My view on that subject is:
1) allow mutiple entries for a same cracktro
2) for 2nd entry, a description of added improvements/features
IMO, this will better motivates remakers than replacing their production because another remaker has better experience on coding or use a langugae that has more compatibility with a specific OS. As an example, I don't think Padman, our Atari Guru, would apreciate having his productions replaced because of a "bug" between his code and Windows 7 (or the slow machine of Stormbringer) ...

| Shockwave | 18-03-2010 13:15 | | Slams: 2116 | I would like it if we could "proper" a remake.
If someone else releases a more accurate remake than one that's already released on here then the old remake could be replaced with the new version.
Most of the remakes here are very accurate but there are some that don't have delta timing or windowed mode or version or are a little bit off the mark (some of my first ones come into those categorys) and those ones should be propered.

| Hardrider | 17-03-2010 21:05 | | Slams: 665 | @HellsAngel: List would be great. In the other side, Remakers should make the ones they want and maybe we could have a way to handle dupes. Again, probability that we have dupes is actually low.
On my side, there is certain Intro that have a certain importance to my eyes and I definitely want/will remake them, even if they are already released... Of course, they will land on my HD :-P or we find a way to have _INTERNAL_ releases :-P
At the end of the day, even if we unluckily work on the same remake, new coded routines will remains ...

| Stormbringer | 17-03-2010 20:51 | | Slams: 5896 | @Hellsangel: I do maintain a list ... let me know the one you want to remake and I'll add it. But you are right, we should make that list more official

| hellsangel | 17-03-2010 19:38 | | Slams: 5393 | (edit)
some problems to keep connected on retro-remake with ff3.6... grrr cookies parameters was bad...
hmm... what about a "wip" snapshots for remakers ? I don't want to start something if already in progress...

| Stormbringer | 08-03-2010 13:36 | | Slams: 5896 | @Tetra: yet another thing with the search tool (thanks Janer for spotting this!). Ok... if you go to the alphabetical index, pick letter A and then click on the group Access, what you expect is only the prods from the group Access. What happens now is that all the groups that have the word "Access" in their name get listed with their prods. Would it be possible that when using the alpha index, the search is exclusive on the group names?

| Shockwave | 02-03-2010 20:00 | | Slams: 2116 | IE being more compliant has a lot to do with M$ losing a lot of their share of browser users to better software like Firefox and Chrome..
Fuck IE

| Hardrider | 02-03-2010 13:17 | | Slams: 665 | Yep, more and more BigSoft discover that standards are not written only for OpenSource geeks :-P |
| | Slams: ∞ | | Sure IE8 is crappy, but less than IE6 and 7 .. they improve slowly but surely :-P |
Hehe that's for sure, at least they are trying to comply with the standard now rather than being a spoilt brat and wanting it their way
I know you think you understand what you

| Hardrider | 02-03-2010 10:46 | | Slams: 665 | And the 900th position has been obtained by the famous Buck Rodgers !! Gratz Buck ! :-P |
| Stormbringer | 02-03-2010 08:46 | | Slams: 5896 | 900 remakes online and counting!
Next target: 1000 by the end of March

| Hardrider | 01-03-2010 19:49 | | Slams: 665 | @Tetra: Thx it works like a charm ! Sure IE8 is crappy, but less than IE6 and 7 .. they improve slowly but surely :-P |
| Stormbringer | 01-03-2010 18:22 | | Slams: 5896 | @Tetra: great for the symbols! no worries about the filter, it's not that urgent. The most requested features are still:
- families management
- resources
Now for resources, I have made my mind about a couple of things and it should be pretty simple to implement...
I'll drop you an email about resources and you will let me know your thoughs

| | Slams: ∞ | @Stormbringer
I've added symbols to the # list now, so anything not a letter will show up here now.
As for the filter, this is a little more complex, mite even add a few milliseconds to the page generation xD i'll see what I can come up with.
I know you think you understand what you
thought I said but I'm not sure you realize
that what you heard is not what I meant. |
| Stormbringer | 01-03-2010 17:37 | | Slams: 5896 | @Tetra: there is still one little detail. When a demo is not related to a group, I usually set for the group name the following tag:
*NO GROUP*
since the * character is located before digits in the ASCII table, such demos will be shown first when sorting by group name. This worked fine with the list. Now that we don't have the list anymore, anything that is not starting with a letter shall end up in the # category.
Also, another wish would be to use the platform selector as a filter. For example when Atari is selected, only Atari group names would appear in the alphabetical index. For example groups like Hotline had prods on C64, Atari and Amiga. It would be nice to be able to filter them since we will end up with quite a lot from Hotline..

IE8 has a few bugs, but there is a workaround, and it works ok now

| Hardrider | 01-03-2010 14:19 | | Slams: 665 | @Tetra: Search is cuasing troubles with W7 and IE8... dunno why, when clicking on letters, it deos not shows the content.
Works with Firefox | |
